Seychelles officially the Republic of Seychelles is an archipelago country in the Indian Ocean. The Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean, off East Africa. The Seychelles were first settled by the French but were soon replaced by the British who took control of the islands after the Napoleonic wars.The national currency of Seychelles is the Seychellois Rupee. The British Legislative Council established a currency board which introduced notes of 50 cents, 1, 5, and 10 rupees in 1918. Seychelles is home to numerous beaches, coral reefs and nature reserves, as well as rare animals such as giant Aldabra tortoises.
The Aldabra Tortoise is often depicted on various coins, notes and stamps of the country. Issued in the year 1983, this 50 Roupie Banknote of the country depicts top view of a giant Aldabra Turtle on the obverse along with the denomination and the authority signature. The reverse depicts a Palm Tree and a typical landscape of the Seychelles urban area.
