Taiwan’s Highest Value Gold Coin Out Now

Taiwan’s Central Bank has unveiled new commemorative coins to mark President Tsai Ing-wen’s inauguration into a second term in office. More than 3000 pre-orders have been placed and the Central Bank plans to release a total of 10,000 gold coins and 50,000 silver coins. In 1996, the Central Bank began issuing gold and silver proof coins – the first time Taiwan held a direct presidential election. The value of NT$2000 is the highest value for a gold coin in Taiwan’s history. They will be sold online for the first time too.The obverse design shows an engraving of the fifteenth President and Vice President of the Republic of China (Taiwan). An inscription along the upper edge of the coin reads: "Commemorating the Inauguration of the Fifteenth President and Vice President of the Republic of China (Taiwan)", while another along the lower edge reads: "20 May 2020" and "2020".
The reverse design shows the insignia of the Office of the President and the inscription (in English) "COMMEMORATING THE 20 MAY 2020 INAUGURATION OF THE PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA (TAIWAN) ".
Tsai and Lai will be sworn-in on 20th May 2020.
