US Criticizes ‘Anti-Semitic’ Romanian Coin

2016-05-14 Sat

Romania's central bank released three coins in mid-April bearing the image of a former bank governor Mihail Manoilescu who promoted the fascist ideology and anti-Semitism. The U.S Embassy has criticised this coin launch completely.

Manoilescu was the foreign minister when Romania was allied with Nazi Germany in 1940. He supported the fascist Iron Guard and signed a diktat due to which they lost a huge territory to Hungary. He later died in a Communist prison in 1950.

There have been no reactions to this criticism as of now.
