Silver Rupee of Princely State Jodhpur

Jodhpur was a Princely State during the British rule in India. During that time it was the largest Princely State in Rajputana Agency and second-largest city in the Indian state Rajasthan. Historically, this princely state has been the capital of the kingdom of Marwar; today Marwar is a part of Rajasthan. The Maharajadhiraja (Great King of Kings) of Jodhpur, belonging to the Rathor Rajputs, who claimed their extremely ancient ancestry from Lord Ram, King of Ayodhya.Jodhpur the city was founded by king Rao Jodha in the year 1495 CE; he was the first ruler of the Rathore dynasty and hence this city is named after him. In the year 1679 CE when Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb had sacked this city the royal Rajputs of Rajasthan came together to free them from Mughal Empire. Later; in the year 1818 CE, this city came under the control of the British Empire. The merchants of Jodhpur are known as ‘Marwaris’, they occupied a dominant role in trade around India. After the independence in the year 1947, this state was merged into the newly formed state of Rajasthan on 13th March 1949 CE.
This silver rupee was issued from Princely State Jodhpur from the mint Dar-ul-Barkat Nagaur in the name of Mughal Emperor Alamgir II. The weight of this coin is around 11.24g and it was issued in the Hijri Year 1170 in the 3rd regnal year of Mughal Emperor Alamgir II. The obverse of this coin is inscribed with the name and title of Mughal Emperor Alamgir II and the reverse of this coin is inscribed with the mint name.
