Princely State Bundi Silver Nazarana Rupee

Bundi was a Princely State during the British rule in India; today it is located in the northwest part of Rajasthan. It is situated in the narrow valley within the Aravalli Hills in Rajasthan.Bundi founded by the Chauhan Rajput, Rao Dewa in 1342 AD. The Rajputs of Bundi were called ‘Rao’ but they were later titled as ‘Raja’ by the Mughal. This state faced most oppression by the Maratha’s powers like Holkars and Sindhias till the 19th century. It came under British control in 1818 and remained so until 1947 AD.
This silver Nazarana Rupee was issued by King Ram Singh during his rule in Princely State Bundi.
King Ram Singh ruled the Bundi Princely State from 1824 to 1889 AD. The only coins ever minted in the reign were silver Rupee and silver Nazarana Rupee. These coins were struck at Bundi mint and represent Katar symbol.
The obverse of this coin depicts an image of ‘Katar’ in the center and the legend ‘QUEEN VICTORIA’ around. The reverse of this coin depicts Devanagari legend ‘‘Bundisha Ram Singh’ with Vikram Samvat date 1943’.
