Travancore was a Princely State during the British rule in India. Today, it is located in the southwestern part of the Indian state of Kerala. It was ruled by a royal family of Padmanabhapuram and later by Thiruvananthapuram.Travancore was one of the most prosperous and powerful kingdoms of medieval India before pre-independence India. This region was ruled by many powerful kingdoms. During the early centuries, it was ruled by Chera Kingdoms, Later during the 11th Century, it fell into the hands of the Chola Empire.
During the mid 18th centuries the region was unified and became the independent state of Travancore, it got allied with the British Empire in their wars in southern India.
