James V was king of Scotland reigning from 1513 until his death in 1542. He was born on 10th April 1512 at Linlithgow Palace, Linlithgowshire, to James IV of Scotland and his wife Margret Tudor. James was 17 months old when he succeeded to the throne of his father. The first action James took as king was to remove Angus from the scene. James increased his income by tightening control over royal estates and from the profits of justice, customs, and feudal rights. James spent a large amount of his wealth on building work at Stirling Castle, Falkland Palace, Linlithgow Palace, and Holyrood, and he built up a collection of tapestries from those inherited from his father.
