Silver Tanka of Gujarat Sultan Shams Al-Din Muzaffar Shah III

The Gujarat Sultanate was the late medieval kingdom established in the early 15th Century. It was established by Zafar Khan (son of Sadharan, a Tanka Rajput) in the year 1396. He was appointed as a Governor of Gujarat by Nasir-ud-din Muhammad Bin Tughluq IV in the year 1391 CE.Shams Al-Din Muzaffar Shah III was the sultan of Gujarat Sultanate, he sat on the throne of Gujarat Sultanate in the year 1560 CE. As his reign begins, Gujarat Sultanate was carved into personal fiefdoms by various nobles and adventurers. Even though he lacked much authority during his reign, coins were struck in his name.
Shams Al-Din Muzaffar Shah III issued coins in gold, silver, and copper. Most of the coins issued by him were struck in Ahmadabad. All the Silver coins issued by him were issued with the weight standard of 7.0-7.5g, but this weight standard was lowered down during the later stage of his reign. During the second year of his reign, he had all his silver coins in the Mughal pattern.
This silver tanka which weighs around 10.5g was issued by him during his reign in Gujarat Sultanate. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as Al Mu'ayyad-Shams and the reverse of this coin is inscribed as Muzaffar Shah bin Mahmud Shah al-Sultan.
