The Karabakh carpet is one of the varieties of carpets of Transcaucasia, made in the Armenian-controlled regions of Karabakh. This heritage has been featured on a banknote of the lesser-known country of Artsakh. The Republic of Artsakh is a predominantly Armenian region of Azerbaijan. Carpet-weaving was historically a traditional profession for the female population of Karabakh. Carpet-weaving in Karabakh especially developed in the second half of the nineteenth century. Artsakh carpets occupy a special place in the history of Armenian carpet-making. Common themes and patterns found on Armenian carpets were the depictions of dragons and eagles. They were diverse in style, rich in color and ornamental motifs, and were even separated in categories depending on what sort of animals were depicted on them, such as artsvagorgs (eagle-carpets), vishapagorgs (dragon-carpets) and otsagorgs (serpent-carpets). This cultural heritage has been featured on a 10-dram banknote of the country. Issued in the year 2004 the banknotes is in very beautiful blue color and depicts Jesus holding gospels and raising hand in benediction and Dadivank monastery in Shahumian district on the obverse and Ancient Hudaferin Bridge, wine barrel with a bunch of grapes, Karabakh carpet on the reverse.Besides usual carpets, carpet bags and coverlets of different types are very popular These included a trunk, a doubled travel bag, traveling bag, sacks for holding loose products, all kinds of coverlets, saddle cover) and other objects.
