Boys Town Centennial Silver Dollar Coin

The United States of America had issued this commemorative silver dollar in the year 2017 with the theme of Boys town. This commemorative coin was issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Boys Town.

After World War II in the year 1945, Harry S. Truman, the 33rd President of the United States of America ask Father Flanagan, a Catholic Priest, to travel around the world to visit war orphans and advise the foreign government how to take care of displaced children.

Father Edward Flanagan used to run a non-profit organization known as ‘Boys Town’ which provides care to children and families of all races in underserved areas of the U.S. The Boys Town became very famous after the success of a movie in the year 1938 ‘Boys Town’.

The surcharges amount which was collected from the sale of this coin coins was paid to Boys Town to carry out its cause of caring for and assisting children and families in underserved communities across America.

The obverse of this coin depicted a young girl sitting alone and gazing upward into the branches of an oak tree looking for help. The reverse of this coin depicts an oak tree offering shelter and a sense of belonging to the family holding hands below it.
