First telegraph stamp of Russia

New York City hosted a public auction organized by Cherrystone from 12 to 13 November 2019. This auction offered a lot from the United States and worldwide stamps collections. It offered at least 1,000 specimens for this sale that year. The highlight of this was 1866 20k black, red-brown perforated 12 also known as the first Russian telegraph stamp.

This lot was described by the auction house as ‘unused with full original gum, hinge remnants well centered with intact perforation on all sides’. There are about 10 to 1866 20k black, red-brown recorded most plagued by small defects. The auction offered this stamp for approx $20,000.
