Peace Medal Nickel

The United States of America had issued this Medal in the year 2004. This medal was presented to the Native chiefs as a sign of peace.

Jefferson had a medal called as token as peace; he called this medal as ‘Peace Medal’. This medal was presented to Lewis and Clark as a gift to Native American chiefs they met as a sign of peace.

The obverse side of this coin depicts the bust of Thomas Jefferson. The design used on the reverse side of this medal was used on the first of the Westward Journey Nickel Series. This design depicts the hand of a Native American and the hand of a European-American clasped in a friendly handshake below a crossed pipe and tomahawk. The one with military uniform cuff represents the American government and the other with a silver band adorned with beads and stylized American eagle represents Native American Community. The words “Louisiana Purchase” are inscribed above the date of the purchase, 1803.
