She had also served her country as the second lady of the United States of America.As the first lady of the United States of America, she was very active in social policy and set a precedent as a politically active presidential spouse. She also spoke about the unprecedented candor and controversial issue of the time, and also the personal matters. She also spoke about drug and alcohol addiction and breast cancer diagnosis. She was also a supporter of equal rights for women and the performing arts. She continued to speak about the topic which was important to her throughout her life. She also wrote three books and co-founded a recovery facility, bearing her name, to treat alcohol and drug dependency.
The obverse of this coin depicts the bust of Betty Ford facing towards left and the reverse of this coin depicts young woman ascending a staircase, representing Mrs. Ford’s openness and advocacy regarding addiction, breast cancer awareness and the rights of women.
