The Royal Canadian has used the latest technology and production techniques to create optical illusions of Canada’s most loved animals on the second silver and colour coin issued under the “Landscape Illusions” series.

One of the most beautiful butterflies, the Monarch is depicted on the latest coin. They are found in different colours and are often regarded as the “king” of the butterflies. Canadian artist Julius T. Csotonyi depicts a colourful springtime scene as the monarch butterfly emerges from flowering dogwood and black plum trees beside a lake. One wing lies outstretched while the other is a reflection on the water. A northern map turtle is also shown walking across the landscape.

The obverse features the common effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and mintage is limited to 5500 pieces only.

The third coin depicting a salmon and will be issued in July; the fourth coin featuring a Pronghorn Antelope will be released in September; and the fifth one will portray a Snowy Owl and will be issued in November.
