Taiwan Confiscates $1 Million Fake Notes
2016-05-11 Wed
100 $1 million Federal Reserve notes were confiscated from a home in Taiwan. The island’s Justice Ministry Investigation Bureau got to know something was fishy for the first time when a person named Hsu tried to donate a $1 million bill to a Taiwanese foundation. The note was deposited in a Taiwanese Bank after which it was transferred to its New York headquarters for authentication. After further investigations, 100 more notes were found at the suspect’s place. Hsu said that he lost a lot of money in a shoe business about 20 years ago and that the notes were given to him as a “compensation for his loss.”
The denomination was so large that investigators assumed that they are fake. After a thorough look into the case, the matter has been proved in court and Hsu will be sentenced for seven years of imprisonment.
