2020-02-10 Mon

Brazil, in the year 1928 issued a set of three stamps commemorating the 200 years of coffee growing in Brazil. In 1727 Francisco de Mello Palheta introduced coffee to Brazil from French Guiana.

Brazil is the largest country in South America and the fifth-largest country in the world by both area and population. It is the only country in Latin America whose primary official language is Portuguese. Brazil is the world’s largest producer and exporter of coffee.

To commemorate the 200 years of coffee growing in Brazil, the country issued a set of three stamps with the denominations of 100 reis, 200 reis, and 300 reis. The stamp depicts liberty – the allegory of Brazil – facing right holding coffee leaves. The coffee plantation is shown in the background.

The set is a good buy in the USD 8 – USD10 range in unused hinged condition and the USD 15 – USD 20 range in mint never hinged condition.
