Austrian Post's Brexit Stamp

2020-02-06 Thu

Austria has issued a stamp on the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union. The stamp was scheduled to release on 29th March 2079, the previous date of departure of Britain from the EU.

However, Due to delay in this process now Austria overprinted the stamp with the new date of Brexit 31st January 2020 and released the stamp on this date. The 140,000 Brexit stamps that were printed have a denomination enough to send a standard letter from Austria to destinations outside of Europe.

Instead of redesigning and printing new ones, the dates were crossed out on the existing stamps with a simple line, and the final Brexit date was printed beneath it. The stamp was issued with the denomination of 1.80 Euros and depicts the map of the United Kingdom in Blue on an off-white background. The name of the country appears on the bottom right and the denomination along with the modified dates is on the top left corner.
