Valentine’s Day on Slovenia Post

The tradition to celebrate Valentine’s Day started in Slovenia in the early 1900s and gradually this festival has been commercialized. A great deal has been written about love. According to the folk tradition, the celebration of this romantic holiday was connected to the mating season of the birds, in other words, the first early celebration of the springtime awakening.

In a very poetic form it is said as the ‘winter sleep came to an end, love began to reawaken among birds’, plants and human beings’. In Slovenia, this day mark as the day to start working in the field and is observe a spring festival. St Valentine is the patron saint of the spring. It is until March 12th, St Gregory’s Day people all over their annual day of Love.
