India Post Celebrated Centenary of ILO

2020-02-04 Tue

India Post has released a commemorative postage stamp on the centenary of International Labour Organization (ILO) on 22nd January 2020. The unique tripartite structure of the ILO gives an equal voice to workers, employers and governments to ensure that the views of the social partners are closely reflected in labour standards and in shaping policies and programmes.

The International Labour Organization was created in 1919, as part of the Treaty of Versailles that ended World War I, to reflect the belief that universal and lasting peace can be accomplished only if it is based on social justice. The Constitution of ILO was drafted in early 1919. The founders of the ILO recognized the importance of social justice in securing peace, against a background of the exploitation of workers in the industrializing nations of that time.

It was composed of representatives from nine countries: Belgium, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, France, Italy, Japan, Poland, the United Kingdom and the United States. The year 2019-2010 is the centenary year of the foundation of the International Labour Organization.

This five rupees stamp depicts the logo of the International Labour Organization along with different forms of labours. The aims and mottos of the organization are inscribed in between and the centenary year i.e. number 100 is inscribed on the right corner of the stamp. The stamp shows contrasting colours of black, dark, blue, pink and orange on plain white background.
