Seychelles officially the Republic of Seychelles is an archipelago country in the Indian Ocean. The Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean, off East Africa. It is home to numerous beaches, coral reefs and nature reserves, as well as rare animals such as giant Aldabra tortoises. Mahe, a hub for visiting the other islands, is home to capital Victoria. It also has the mountain rainforests of Morne Seychellois National Park and beaches, including Beau Vallon and Anse Takamaka.

The national currency of Seychelles is the Seychellois Rupee. It is subdivided into 100 cents. In the local Seychellois Creole language, it is called the roupi. Seychelles is the smallest country to have an independent monetary policy.

Today we are looking at a 10 Rupees banknote issued in 1976. The obverse has flowers in centre, conch to left bottom and the portrait of Sir James Richard Marie Mancham KBE who was a Seychellois politician. He founded the Seychelles Democratic Party and was the first President of Seychelles from 1976 to 1977.

The reverse features a beautiful scene with house, bats and palm/coconut trees.
