Chinese Ancient Mythical Creatures Coin Released

A new two-ounce version of its Chinese Ancient Mythical Creatures High Relief Silver Coin has been issued by The Perth Mint this month. The issue features an antiqued finish and has the same designs of the five-ounce and one-ounce coins.The reverse portrays four Chinese ancient mythical creatures: the blue dragon, the white tiger, the red phoenix, and the black tortoise. They were believed to be one of the four heavenly quadrants marking the beginning and end of the winter and summer solstices, and the autumn and spring equinoxes. A Yin-Yang symbol is placed at the centre of the design and ‘CHINESE ANCIENT MYTHICAL CREATURES’ is inscribed along the rim of the coin.
The obverse features the common portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, with inscriptions ‘QUEEN ELIZABETH II’, ‘2 OZ 999 SILVER’, ‘2016’, ‘2 DOLLARS’, and ‘TUVALU’, the country of issue.
The coin is available for $189.09 AUD and has a mintage limited to 1,500 pieces.
