Peru is a country in South America that's home to a section of Amazon rainforest. It is famous for the Machu Picchu, an ancient Incan city high in the Andes Mountains. The region around Machu Picchu, including the Sacred Valley, Inca Trail and colonial city of Cusco, is rich in archaeological sites. On Peru’s arid Pacific coast in Lima, the capital, there are with a preserved colonial centre and important collections of pre-Columbian art.The inti was the currency of Peru between 1985 and 1991. The inti was divided into 100 céntimos. The new currency was named after Inti, the Inca sun god. The inti was introduced on 1 February 1985, replacing the sol which had suffered from high inflation.
The note depicted alongside is a 100,000 Intis banknote depicted in 1989. The obverse depicts Peruvian military hero Francisco Bolognesi Cervantes to right. The reverse depicts Lago Titicaca (lake) with ancient Peruvian sailing reed boats.
