Alice Paul and the Suffrage Movement Commemorative Coin

The United States of America had issued this commemorative $10 coin with the theme of Alice Paul in the year 2012 with the theme of Alice Paul.

According to the Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005 (Public Law 109-145) has a provision to Provide continuity of the First Spouse Gold Coin Program during those times in which a President served without a first spouse. According to this office, President Chester Arthur's wife dies before he took the Presidential office in the year 1881.

Generally, the coins issued to accompanied any president who had served the country without a spouse features emblematic of Liberty on its obverse. But, in this case, Alice Paul had played a leading role in the suffrage movement. This movement was instrumented with women working for broad-based economic and political equality and social reforms, women sought to change voting laws to allow them to vote.

The obverse of this depicts the bust of Alice Paul. The reverse of this coin depicts participants marching in the suffrage parade, holding the flag and wearing a banner that says VOTES FOR WOMEN.
