Copper coin of Queen Managama

Queen Managama was the wife of King Chokkanantha of the Madurai Nayak Dynasty, she is known for her contribution to the development of infrastructures in the kingdom. She ruled as a regent for her grandson Vijayaranga Chokkanatha. Her diplomacy helped the great deal maintaining good relations with the neighboring powers. Managama established a state policy that was liberal towards all the religious practices and beliefs. She is also famous as the road maker and ruled from 1689 to 1704 CE.The above-shown image depicts Rani Mangammal\Managama copper coin. The obverse of this coin depicts a lion body with the face of lord Narashima walking towards right within a line border. The reverse of this coin depicts a legend inscribed in Telugu which reads ‘Sri Mangammal’ within the line border.
