Elizabeth Monroe was the wife of James Monroe, the president of the United States of America from 1817 to 1825. Elizabeth was born in the year 1768 in New York City and got married to James Monroe at the age of 17. She was the first lady of the United States of America from 1817-1825.

In the year 1818; both Elizabeth and James Monroe had their grand New Year’s Day reception marking the reopening of the White House, which was rebuilt after its burning at the hands of the British in 1814. The coupled also supplied some of their furniture to the government because the White House because it was almost empty when they moved in.

The United States of America had issued this commemorative gold 10 dollars with the theme of Elizabeth Monroe. The obverse of this coin depicts the bust of Elizabeth Monroe. The reverse of the coin depicts Elizabeth Monroe at the reception for the reopening of the White House in 1818.
