On 30th December 1865 Rudyard Kipling the author of The Jungle Book was born in Bombay, India! Rudyard Kipling was an English short-story writer, poet, and novelist most famous for creating the beloved characters of Mowgli, Bagheera, Bhaloo, Kaa and Shere Khan!Kipling's works of fiction include The Jungle Book (1894), Kim (1901), and many short stories, including "The Man Who Would Be King" (1888).[2] His poems include "Mandalay" (1890), "Gunga Din" (1890), "The Gods of the Copybook Headings" (1919), "The White Man's Burden" (1899), and "If—" (1910). He is regarded as a major innovator in the art of the short story and he was considered as one of the most popular writers in the United Kingdom, in both prose and verse, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
In 1907, Rudyard Kipling was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, making him the first English-language writer to receive the prize, and its youngest recipient to date. The world famous Mowgli and his friends, of Rudyard Kipling’s creation, are minted on many commemorative coins and medallions.
In 2017, Niue, a small island nation in the South Pacific Ocean, issued 4 oz Silver Disney Jungle Book 4-Coin Set commemorating 50th anniversary of Disney’s adaptation of Kipling’s book, The Jungle Book. The set contains 4 Silver coins that feature five of the delightful characters of the movie: Bagheera, Baloo, Shere Khan, King Louie and Mowgli.
The reverse of each one of these four Silver coins depicts the Disney movie’s protagonist (Mowgli) accompanied by key character from the film. In the bottom the inscription reads, “1 OZ 999 FINE SILVER” “DISNEY”. The coin’s obverse depicts the effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: “ELIZABETH II”, “NIUE”, “2017” and “TWO DOLLARS”.
Aren’t these coins a beauty! We may not be able to be kids again and join Mowgli in his adventures, but we can definitely recreate those blissful childhood memories by collecting such beautiful coins!
Happy Collecting!
