Spanish Construction Workers Find a Roman Treasure

2016-05-05 Thu

A 600-kilogram trove of Roman coins was discovered accidentally by workers laying pipes in a southern Spanish park. The Seville Archaeological Museum stated that 19 amphoras containing thousands of unused bronze and silver-coated coins from the end of the 4th century were discovered.

It is believed that the coins were probably originally stored to pay soldiers or civil servants. Officials have declared that this find is unique for Spain and is extremely precious.

The construction work has been revoked and archaeological investigations have begun.
