Colombia, officially the Republic of Colombia, is a sovereign state situated in the northwest of South America, with some of its territories in North America as well. The peso has been the currency of Colombia since 1810. In 1915, a new paper currency was introduced, the Peso Oro. Colombia's banknotes continued to be issued denominated in Peso Oro until 1993, when the word Oro was dropped.Today we are looking at a 2 Pesos banknote issued in 1973. The obverse features the portrait of Policarpa Salavarrieta (La Pola); while the reverse features Balsa - wood raft of Muisca - Gold Museum.
