2019-12-11 Wed
Created by the United Nations General Assembly on 11 December 1946, UNICEF aims at providing emergency food and healthcare to children in countries that had been devastated by World War II. Over the last 72 years, UNICEF has been working to provide equal opportunities to every child of the young nation by respecting their basic rights. The organization has worked in collaboration with the government, international partners, civil society, the private sector, and local communities to uplift the conditions of children and women in the country.
On the 72nd anniversary of its founding, UNICEF celebrates the immense progress made for the world’s children – and renews the urgent call to reach millions of children whose lives and futures are endangered by conflict, crisis, poverty, inequality, and discrimination.
11th December 2019 marks the 70 years of UNICEF in India. UNICEF started its journey in India in 1949. It has been a remarkable story of commitment, perseverance, and learning that has helped millions of children to realize their dreams for a better future.
To celebrate the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the UNICEF in India, commemorative stamps were issued to highlight the services rendered by UNICEF in India. The stamp design is based on a painting by a child, Amita Shah. Another stamp of value 15 Naye Paise was issued in 1960 to commemorate UNICEF Day.
