2019-12-06 Fri

This half dollar was issued by the United States of America in the year 1924 with the theme of Huguenot-Walloon. The half-dollar was issued by the United States of America to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the voyage of the New Netherland which landed in the New York area in 1624. Many of the passengers on this voyage were Huguenots from France or from the Walloons from what is now Belgium. They became early settlers of New York State and the surrounding area.

The obverse of this coin depicts the bust of Admiral Coligny and William the Silent, leaders in the struggle for civil and religious liberty. The reverse of this coin depicts the ship in which the refugees came to the New World.
