2019-12-02 Mon
The Europa postage stamp is an annual joint issue of stamps with a common design or theme by postal administrations of member countries of the European Communities, the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations. In the year 2015, the Azores – an autonomous region of Portugal located in the mid-Atlantic issued two pretty stamps featuring Old Toys!Toys and games have been unearthed from the sites of ancient civilizations. They have been written about in some of the oldest literature. The earliest toys are made from materials found in nature, such as rocks, sticks, and clay. In the nineteenth century, the emphasis was put on toys that had an educational purpose to them, such as puzzles, books, cards, and board games.
Since the dawn of time, toys have been an important part of growing up and a key part of a child’s life. Hence, for the sake of childhood nostalgia Europa introduced the “Old Toys” theme. The Azores contributed by issuing a set of two stamps. The stamps were issued with the denomination of 0.72 Euro and depict old toys such as a wooden bullock cart or miniature kitchen set.
