Thomas Alva Edison demonstrates phonograph

One of the greatest inventors in history, Thomas Alva Edison was born on 11th February 1874. He is best known for his invention of the phonograph, Light Bulb, and The motion picture camera which had a widespread impact on the modern industrialized world. Edison took out 1,093 patents in a variety of fields.

He developed many devices in fields such as electric power generation, mass communication, sound recording, and motion pictures. In addition, he created the world’s first industrial research laboratory.

Today on 29th of November in the year 1877, Edison demonstrates his phonograph for the first time. It is a device which is used for the mechanical recording and reproduction of sound. In its later forms, it is also called as gramophone. Edison's phonograph was the first to be able to reproduce the recorded sound.

To honor this great inventor United State issued a commemorative stamp on the 100th anniversary of his birth in 1947.
