Augustus Featured on Modern Italian Coin

State Polygraphic and Mint Institute of Italy issued the third coin of the series of the “Roman Emperors” in the year 2019 depicting Emperor Augustus.

Octavian Augustus is an ancient Roman politician, the founder of the Roman Empire. He served as consul 13 times, from 12 BC. e. - the great pontiff, from 23 BC e. possessed authority, in 2 BC e. received the honorary title "father of the fatherland."

The Roman Emperor series started in the year 2017 with Emperor Hadrian and Emperor Trajan in the year 2018. The current coin in the series comes with the denomination of 10 Euros and the coins were designed by Artist: Silvia Petrassi.

The coin depicts the interpretation of the portrait of Augustus facing right and is inscribed with “Republica Italiana” around with the initials of the designer behind the portrait. The reverse depicts acanthus spirals from the Altar of Augustus in the center and the name of the emperor above, denomination at the bottom and the year of issue on the left. A single letter “R” is above the design which denotes the Mint name Rome.
