Gold One and Half Dinar of Muhammad bin Sam

This gold 1 ½ heavy dinar is the posthumous coin of Mu`izz al-Din Muhammad bin Sam issued by Taj al-Din Yildiz. This gold tanka was issued in the Hijri year 605 from the mint Baldah Ghazna.Muhammad Bin Sam is also known as Muhammad Bin Ghori, He took the name Muhammad Bin Sam after sitting on the throne. Muhammad Bin Sam was born in the year 1162 CE. After defeating Prithvi Raj Chauhan in the Battle of Tarai in the year 1192 AD, Muhammad Bin Sam came to be popularly known as Muhammad Ghori, he went on to conqueror the North Indian Plain and established Muslim rule in India.
The obverse side of the coin is inscribed as ‘As Sultan al- Azam Muizz-ud duniya-wa al-Din abu al Muzaffar Muhammad bin Sam’ within a square on the obverse side. The Reverse side of the coin is inscribed as ‘La ila ila Allah Muhammad Rasul Allah, al Nasir li-Din Allah Amir al muminin. This gold 1 ½ heavy dinar is listed for INR 3,00,000 in the upcoming auction of Classical Numismatic Gallery which will be held in Kolkata on 20th December 2019.
