Oregon Trail Memorial Half Dollar

This half dollar was issued by the United States of America with the theme of Oregon Trail Memorial in the year 1926. It was issued to commemorate those who had traveled west on the trail during the mid-1800s. After 1926, this half dollar was issued again by the United States of America in the year 1928, then from 1933 to 1934 and finally from the year 1936-1939.Oregon Trail Memorial Association was an association founded by the pioneer Ezra Meeker in the year 1922. It was formed as the Old Oregon Trail Association to memorialize those who traveled to the U.S. West Coast via the Oregon Trail.
The obverse of this coin depicts old-time Conestoga wagon drawn by two oxen over the brow of a hill and toward the setting sun. The reverse of this coin depicts a full-length image of an Indian with headdress, blanket, and bow; his left hand is outstretched to the east. In the background is a map of the United States with the Oregon Trail indicated.
