National Cadet Corps

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a Tri-Services Organization, engaged in grooming the youth of the country into disciplined and patriotic citizens. NCC was formed by the National Cadet Corps Act of 1948 on 15th July 1948.

It is the Indian military cadet with its headquarters in New Delhi. The motto for the NCC is “Unity and Discipline”. During the 1965 and 1971 wars with Pakistan, NCC cadets were the second line of defense.

It was formed with a view to inculcate self-confidence and a sense of responsibility, which are the essential ingredients among the youth of the country. It provides mountaineering, skiing, flying, gliding, and boat pulling training to the cadet in addition to elementary military training. In India every year fourth Sunday in the month of November is celebrated as National Cadets Corps Day (NCC Day).

India Postal Department has issued a commemorative postage stamp on 25th November 1973, to commemorate the silver jubilee of the NCC and dedicate it to the youth of the country. The design of the stamp is vertical and depicts the emblem of the NCC.
