This silver half dollar was issued by the United States of America in the year 1936 with the theme of the San Diego-California-Pacific Exposition. This half dollar was issued in the year 1935 and 1936 to commemorate the city’s exposition during that year.The California Pacific International Exposition was an exposition done in San Diego from 29th May 1935 to 11th November 1935 and 12th February 1936 and 9th September 1936. The exposition was held in Balboa Park, San Diego's large central urban park, which had also been the site of the earlier Panama-California Exposition in 1915. The Exposition was held to promote San Diego and to support its economy, which help the country to slow down its great depression.
The obverse of this coin depicts the image of a seated goddess Minerva, a goddess of wisdom, holding a spear in one hand and shield on the other hand sitting on a spear grizzly bear. The shield of the cornucopia is to the left side of the goddess Minerva and Ship Mountains and the gold miner in the background. The reverse side of the coin depicts Chapel of St. Francis, and the California Tower.
