The United States of America had issued this commemorative half dollar with the theme of Albany, New York Charter a half dollar in the year 1936. This commemorative half dollar was issued by the United States of America to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the city’s charter.The obverse of this coin depicts a beaver with a branch of maple seeds; with the legend ‘UNITED STATES OF AMERICA’ and ‘E PLURIBUS UNUM’ and ‘IN GOD WE TRUST at the top and ‘HALF-DOLLAR’ at the bottom. The reverse of this coin depicts a full-length portrait of Sir Thomas Dongan, Colonial Governor, presenting a charter to Peter Schuyler, Albany's first mayor, and Robert Livingston; an eagle in flight above the men, a pine branch, and cones. The inscription ‘SETTLED. 1614. CHARTERED.1686 AND ‘ALBANY.N.Y’ around.
