2019-11-11 Mon

El Salvador is a small Central American nation known for its Pacific Ocean beaches, surf spots and mountainous landscape. Its “Ruta de Las Flores” is a winding route that takes you across picturesque coffee farms, rainforests with waterfalls and towns like Juayua, with its weekend food festival, plus Ataco, home to vivid murals. The capital, San Salvador, with a dramatic backdrop of volcanoes, has numerous museums and the National Theater.

The colon, the official currency of El Salvador since 1892, was replaced by the U.S. dollar in 2001. The colon is derived from the last name of Christopher Columbus - Cristobal Colon in Spanish.

Today we are looking at 5 Colones banknote of 1938. The obverse depicts a woman with fruits to left; while the reverse features the portrait of Christopher Columbus - Cristobal Colon in centre.
