Canada's New Haunted Coin for Halloween
2019-11-05 Tue
With Halloween just passed by, it’s time to look at new creations by the mints of the different countries. Canada is way ahead in this race. Royal Canadian Mint with fully throttled Halloween spirit has issued a new haunted coin.As a part of their Spooky Canada collection, this coin has become immensely popular among the collectors. The coin was issued with the denomination of 50 cents and features a famous ghost story from the HI Ottawa Jail Hostel, where it is said that a ghost still haunts it today.
The Ottawa jail was built back in 1862 where it housed up to 150 prisoners at one time. Patrick Whelan, who was hanged for the 1868 assassination of Thomas D'Arcy McGee is said to still haunt the prison to this day. In fact, the former jail is said to be one of the most haunted buildings in Canada.
The coin on the reverse depicts a frightened girl with a half-open door behind her. The coin displays an excellent gloomy mood of prison and a spooky mood of a haunted place. The coin has to be titled a little to see the real spooky power of the coin. When tilted the coin shows two images. The first photo is of a woman standing outside the jailhouse when it is tilted a ghost quickly appears.
