This gold mohur issued by Maratha in the name of Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II from the mint Muhiyabad Poona is listed for INR 700000 in the upcoming auction Oswal Antiques which will be held in Pune on 16th November 2019.Maratha had ruled the Indian part of the sub-continent from 1674 CE to 1818 CE. The Maratha Empire was founded by the great Maratha warrior hero Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Bhonsle. Shivaji Maharaj proclaimed himself as ‘Chhatrapati’ in the year 1674 CE. He founded this empire in response to the chaos and misruled that prevailed in the Deccan in the late 17th Century.
The obverse of this gold mohur is inscribed with the name and title of the king Shah Alam II. The reverse of this gold mohur was is inscribed with the mint name and regnal year. The weight of this gold mohur is around 11.04g and it was issued during the 12th year of the reign of Shah Alam II.
