Providence, Rhode Island Tercentenary Half Dollar

Providence is the capital and one of the most popular cities of the state Rhode Island; it is also considered as one of the oldest cities of the United States of America. The city is situated at the mouth of the Providence River at the head of Narragansett Bay. This city was founded by Roger Williams in the year 1636.Roger Williams was the reformed Baptist theologian and religious exile from Massachusetts Bay Colony. He names this area as Providence, to honor God's merciful Providence" which he believed was responsible for revealing such a haven for him and his followers.
This half dollar was issued by the United States of America in the year 1936; it was issued to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the city’s founding. The obverse of this coin depicts Indian at Slate Rock welcoming Roger Williams in a canoe with the sun rising over the ocean in the background. The reverse of this coin depicts a shield of the State of Rhode Island.
