On October 18, Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) announced that starting from November 1 a new 50 leva note will be put in regular circulation.

This 50 leva note will have a hologram stripe alternating images of a bird and Icarus, as well as using a variable ink, which alternates between gold and green depending on the angle at which it will be viewed. It will also have a security thread that will feature the same variable ink, while the watermark of Pencho Slaveikov’s portrait will be in higher resolution.

The 50 leva currency will be similar to the 100 leva banknote that was issued on December 2018.

Also, the previously issued 50 leva banknotes in 1999 and 2006 will also remain in circulation as legal tender.
