India wins four 2019 UNESCO Awards

UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation announced recently where Indian bagged four awards in three categories.

The year 2019 marks 20 years of the UNESCO Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation. The 20th anniversary presents an opportune moment for reflection not only on the achievements and lessons learned from the UNESCO Heritage Awards program, but also to review how far heritage conservation has come in the past two decades.

The UNESCO award highlights the spirit and efforts of private organizations or individuals that have successfully restored and conserved structures of heritage value in their regions. UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation were declared at a function held in Malaysia. Following Awards were achieved by India:

Award of Merit has given to Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue and Our Lady of Glory Church. Award of Distinction has given to Vikram Sarabhai Library, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India. Mumbai’s Flora fountain was given an award of Honourable Mention.

UNESCO established this award to motivate the protection of cultural heritage sites by any individual organization or by any private sector entity. It is a moment of pride for India to be awarded not just one but four such honors on the 20th Anniversary of the Award Ceremony.
