This Half-Dollar was issued by the United States of America in the year 1937 with the theme of the Battle of Antietam. The obverse of this half dollar depicts the portrait of George B. McClellan and Robert E. Lee. The reverse of this half dollar depicts Burnside Bridge and the date of the Battle of Antietam.

The Battle of Antietam is also known as the Battle of Sharpsburg. This battle was fought between two Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s of North Virginia and Union General George B. McClellan’s of Potomac near Sharpsburg, Maryland and Antietam Creek on 17th September 1862. This battle had a very shocking and violent, the casualties of this war were so high that day of this was is well known as "The Bloodiest Day in American History."
