Mark Twain Commemorative Silver Dollar

This Commemorative silver dollar was issued by the United States of America with the theme of Mark Twain in the year 2016. Mark Twain was an American humorist, entrepreneur, publisher and lecturer.Each coin issued in these series has distinctive obverse and reverse which represents life and legacy of the author. The obverse of this silver dollar depicts the portrait of Mark Twain smoking a pipe with the smoke forming a silhouette of Huck Finn and Jim on a raft in the background. The reverse of this silver dollar depicts different characters leaping to life from Mark Twain’s work. The reverse of this coin depicts the character Huck and Jim on a raft from the book Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Jim is pointing towards knight on a horseback a character from the novel Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court (1889). Under the horse and to the left of Huck and Jim, there is a frog–representing Mark Twain’s first literary triumph, the acclaimed short story “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” (1865)–appears to be leaping off of the coin’s surface.
