Gold, Silver Shivaji Era Coins At Shukla Day Fair

Chhatrapatti Shivaji Maharaj's gold and silver hon (coin) from 1674 and the Bharat Ratna were on display during the three-day Shukla Day Coin and Philately Fair held at the World Trade Centre in Mumbai from 22nd April to 24th April.

A 200 year-old Kushan gold coin, which is worth Rs70,000 to Rs2.5 lakh, was auctioned among other such rare coins and notes. 1,630 items were auctioned at the event including rare and ancient coins, stamps, banknotes and medals. The Bharat Ratna which was awarded to Gulzarilal Nanda, Indian politician and economist, was also on display.

The auction is held every year in the memory of late SM Shukla, who was one of India’s leading numismatists. The event was a success and thousands of visitors came down to take a look at the grand exhibition.
