The United States of America had issued this commemorative five cents with the theme of American Bison.American Bison is commonly known as American Buffalo, it is a North American species of bison that once roamed North America in vast herds. The American bison was named the national mammal of the United States on May 9, 2016. Bison is characterized by a hump over the front shoulder and slimmer hindquarters. Bison are widespread from Alaska to northern Mexico.
These Bison Nickel five cents was issued by the United States of America in the year 2005. The obverse of these coins depicts the portrait of Thomas Jefferson facing towards the right with inscription ‘Liberty’ presented in Thomas Jefferson’s handwriting; and a motto ‘IN THE GOD WE TRUST’ around. The reverse of this coin depicts American Bison with the letter ‘UNITED STATES OF AMERICA’ at the top and ‘FIVE CENTS’ at the bottom.
