Australian Coin Celebrates 30th Annual Police Remembrance Day

Australia released a coloured $2 coin to celebrate the 30th annual National Police Remembrance Day. Senior officials of the Royal Australian Mint and Police Federation of Australia were present during the inaugural function. The coin honours Australia’s police force and their invaluable sacrifices. It also remembers all the brave policemen/ policewomen who lost their lives in the line of duty.The coin’s design looks like a police badge, with St. Edwards Crown and the Commonwealth Star, symbolising the Federation of Australia that was formed in 1901. A wreath surrounds the central motif. The coin’s blue and white chequered pattern called Sillitoe Tartan can also be seen on uniforms and vehicles of the Australian police department. The coin has a mintage limit of 40,000 pieces and can be purchased for $15.00 AUD each.
29th September is observed as National Police Remembrance Day every year. The day also marks the Feast of the patron saint of police and peacemakers, St. Michael the Archangel. It gives an opportunity to dear ones of fallen heroes to mourn for their loved ones. It also reminds the citizens of Australia about the valiant efforts that are taken by fearless policemen/women to protect their nation from disasters, calamities, security threats and crime.
