Remembering the great revolutionary- Jatindra Nath Das

Revolutionary freedom fighter Jatindra Nath Das, also known as Jatin Das died today on 13th September 1929. He was an active member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association.At the young age of 17, Jatin inspired by patriotic zeal participated in the non-cooperation movement. In 1925, when he was studying for his B.A. in Vidyasagar College he was arrested for his political activities. There he protested against the ill-treatment towards Indian political prisoners.
On 14 June 1229, he was arrested again as a part of Lahore conspiracy case. During his stay in Lahore jail, Jatindra Nath das saw the dreadful conditions of Indian political prisoners. Their uniforms were not washed for several days. The area where their food was prepared was infested with pests like rats and cockroaches.
He joined Bhagat Singh and his other comrades for a hunger strike in the Lahore Central Jail in 1929. His fast lasted 63 days. He died at the age of 24 on September 13, 1929.
In the honor of this great son of India, a 30 Paise commemorative postage stamp was issued on the 50th death anniversary of Jatin Das.
